Aeluros Unveils High-Bandwidth Communications IC Technology
Breakthrough 40 Gbps CMOS device demonstrates leading integration and low power capabilities.
Mountain View, CA, November 4, 2002 - Aeluros, a leader in high-performance, low-power
CMOS solutions, today announced its leading-edge technology that establishes a
firm foundation for delivering highly-integrated production quality solutions running at
speeds of 10 Gbps and higher. Modeled and designed from the ground up to support the
ever-increasing demands of high-performance, low-power storage, datacomm and
telecomm applications, the Aeluros technology enables equipment manufacturers to
successfully integrate digital functionality with multiple 10 Gbps serial links in a single
device while still achieving very low power.
Aeluros has assembled a world-class team with expertise in device modeling, circuit
design, packaging and signal integrity - all the critical components needed to deliver
best-in-class high-performance CMOS solutions. The company's leading edge
technology has been validated by its Bobcat test chip, a highly integrated device with
four full-duplex 10 Gbps serial transceivers and several noise generators that simulate a
million gates of integrated digital logic. This four-channel device far exceeds all jitter
requirements in the IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gigabit Ethernet and the Telcordia GR-253 OC-192
SONET jitter specifications for single channel devices. The complex Bobcat device is a
first-pass tapeout success, validating the Aeluros deterministic product development
method which rests firmly upon the company's demonstrated ability to successfully
model all the components of the high-speed circuit, including the transistors, passives,
interconnect and package.
"Displacing GaAs and SiGe technologies, CMOS is clearly the right choice for the next
generation of 10 Gbps physical-layer ICs," said Allan Armstrong, director of
communications semiconductors at RHK. "Having demonstrated SONET-quality
performance, CMOS opens up the roadmap to integration, offering the possibility
of adding valuable digital logic functionality integrated with multiple channels of high-speed
transceivers."
"Aeluros has assembled a mixed-signal Dream Team that has a proven track record of
designing and delivering volume production solutions at gigabit speeds and higher," said
Richard Egan, CEO of Aeluros. "Having already validated the accuracy of our device
models using our 40 Gbps stress test Bobcat validation vehicle, we can quickly and easily
execute on several different 10 Gbps products that fit well with the market needs for high-performance,
low-power CMOS devices capable of integrating several million gates of
logic."
Bobcat Evaluation Board
Aeluros has completed all evaluation work on the Bobcat device and is offering a Bobcat
evaluation board for customers. This board enables customers to verify the capability to
run multiple 10 Gbps serial links on a single CMOS device and can also be used to drive
several different 10 Gbps devices on a single board.
